I took the flywheel off my tractor and noticed I can move the crankshaft side to side about .050" is this normal, is this what they call end play. How much should it move and how do I repair or adjust this?

Thanks much for the help,
Bruce

I think endplay is the movement back and forth on th elong axis of the crankshaft. What you describe sounds like the main journal bearings have worn and oil pressure may be a problem to maintain.

Dial indicator measurement or eyeballing ?
The parts book lists the endplay control.

If the clutch is not jumpy and for all the tractor is used, sometimes just leaving it alone is a good idea.
The clutch should be removed down to the crankshaft and everything cleaned, inspected, wear item replaced and a modest application of lube.

End play is adjusted with the flywheel installed. You will need to hold the clutch/crankshaft to the left using a jack or block of wood. Sometimes you can tie the clutch lever back while adjusting the endplay instead of using a jack. Then tap the flywheel to the right until you have .005-.010 endplay.

When engaging and disengaging the clutch I can see that crankshafts moves left to right .050" as measured with a dial indicator, there is no lateral movement that I can detect. I did not know this was adjusted with the flywheel but I do see that now that I looked at Dir 108.
Also I'm not quite clear on the oil slinger from the parts book, should there be a seal or felt washer in there.

There is a cork seal inside that flywheel spacer if your tractor is newer than ser# 53388. D2124R is the part #
