JD 2010 8th Gear

Hey guys! Was helping my dad move hay equipment from one field to the
other yesterday, and his row-crop JD 2010 gas kept popping out of 8th.
Sometimes I could get it back in, but at one point I couldn't find it
and just had to drop down to 7th. He seems to have better luck with
it, and said it has been doing that since he bought it a couple years
ago. I forgot to grab his manuals while I as at home, but was curious
if this might just be an adjustment or if worn parts are in need of
replacement? It's a synchro-range. Thanks!

Some times on those when you pull it strongly into 8th it will let the range quadrant in the shifter move with the speed quadrant and will pull it out of the range, there is a latch in the shifter that is supposed to keep this from happening but they get worn after 50 years,,try to lay it into 8th gear spot firm, but gentle like you Dad is probably doing it...

My 3010 was doing the same. The linkage was worn. Was able to put a cotter pin in the hole to tighten it until I can fix it correctly. Helps to have someone move the shifter for you to see what's happening.
