2510 Vapor lock

Hi everyone! I'm a new owner of a 1967 JD 2510. My tractor starts fine when cold but after running for a lengthy amount of time it won't restart. Let it cool for an hour or so and it restarts just fine. The carb has been rebuilt and an electronic ignition has been put on it by the previous owner who also had the same problem. I don't know if or when fuel pump has been replaced.

Has anyone else had this problem? Am I completely off base with the vapor lock theory?

With fuel tank full, it would be hard to vapor lock??

When it first starts after cooling, does it roll black smoke? (flooded) Or do you have to choke?

My 3020 still needs choking when hot to start, but starts good hot or cold.
 
Dad's 2510, purchased new spring 1966, pretty much always started, but never acted like it wanted to! It needed choking even when hot. I don't know what that was about. I've never seen another engine like it. It never cranked very fast. It got worse when the original 4 piston hyd. pump messed up, and was replaced with the 8 piston pump.
You may have a combination of problems. Does it crank as fast hot, as it does cold? I doubt it's a problem since it starts cold, but you could pull the carb. air hose off and check the choke plate, and choke plate relief action.

The engine cranks normally and it doesn't seen to have any resistance from the hydraulics.
 
If it has an electric fuel solenoid on the carb. load needle , its probably sticking . You can reverse the spring on the needle and it cant shut it off . The reason its on there is for dieseling when its a hot-shut down . Let it idle for a bit then if necessary kill it in gear . I never liked to do that . Check the slow idle speed with the knob pulled out and moved up .
