5510 clutch

I need to split my 5510 to replace clutch. There is no good place to hook to front half to lift. The only place to lift is to put a jack on the pan. Generally I look for a place to bolt my universal tractor stands with wheels so I can easily roll the front away and separate the two halves, but not in this case. I am well into my 70's and always been a JD man but I think they are starting to get a little off track. Is their competition forcing them to cut corners or am I just getting too old and expecting too much!

Isn't there holes in the side of the bell housing to where a loader bracket could bolt ? I'd use those to mount stands to.

I made a bracket out of channel iron to go across right in front of the flywheel housing and use a floor jack to roll the front away.

Mike: The loader bracket holes are in the transmission bell housing so it will not do anything for the front half. Tech 7 is suggesting almost the something as I am thinking about doing.

Maybe this picture will it was taken from the 5X10 tech manual. If you do not have the manual you might want to take a look at selectmanuals.com. Please consider letting us know how the split went. Also did you just replace the clutch disk or did you go with the clutch pack/assembly option.

Hopefully this upload works.

I use a floor crane and a nylon sling strap, finding the "happy" spot and roll the front away, they are a bit awkward..
