Help on my 4010 hydraulics please

I bought a 4010 diesel tractor last fall. Had abound a thousand hours on fresh overhaul. Tractor has a front end loader that is set up to plug into the rear remotes. My problem is that when the loader is hooked up it will automatically keep raising. Whatever I plug in back there will slowly keep raising up without moving the lever. I've been fighting this problem and don't know a lot about this tractor but don't mind getting greasy. Any help would be greatly appreciated. And hello everybody I'm new to the forum but have looked on here quite awhile and know there is a lot of knowledge on here.

You have a leaking poppet valve in the SCV and it will need to be taken off and repaired. The closed center hydraulic system used on that tractor keeps full pump pressure applied to the valve at all times so if the valve leaks, pressure is applied at all times and depends on how bad the leak is as to how fast it leaks. Job for experienced to properly repair and adjust those valves.

Seen that twice. One had prob in SCV the other had a bad packing in loader cyl. Might plug a gauge in each coupler one at a time and see if it builds pressure while valve is in neutral.

(quoted from post at 22:35:53 06/17/16) Send SCV to Tim S, he posts here, it will come back correct.

Welcome to YT.
Ditto on valve needs to go to Tim S or some other "qualified tech" that understands how to set those contrary valves. If it was my tractor I'd just attach a spool valve to operate loader & cap off the factory scv supply line.

Was there also an issue where the early SCV's (x010) were not really rebuildable, and better off swapped with a later one (x020)?

I can't remember that answer but IMHO JD engineers went out of their way to make the scv's & steering valves of that era way "too complicated"".

Hey everyone just a little more info.
I went ahead today and bought a
hydrolic pressure gauge. Set it all up
and plugged it in to rear remotes. One
side I have no pressure leaking and the
other side I am getting like 1800 psi
with tractor idling. Only one set of
remotes in back. One side of remote
has rubber hose and the other side of
remote has metal pressure line. The
rubber hose side should be the return
line??? Next question is do I need to
rebuild the scv with them symptoms?
And last question is I just purchased a
new round baler and have a bunch of hay
to bale on Monday. I'm worried with
the leak that the end gate will slowly
unlock. Or will I be alright if I have
it hooked up right??? The loader that
was on the tractor has single acting
cylinders. Would that cause this
problem. Thanks everybody. Sorry for
the long paragraph

The early 4020/4010 valves under the hood do not repair well the best thing to do is to swap it out with a salvage yard valve...

I would change them both out for a newer style and send to Tim S to make sure they are up to snuff.

The stand-by pressure needs to be raised to 2250 psi. The SCV needs attention as the side with zero pressure isn't going to operate(open/close) rd baler tailgate at all. I'm thinking the scv has been altered to operate single acting cylinder but I can't remember exactly what to change to swap it back to double acting. IIRC one needs to change setting on set screw(parts key 26)

Tx Jim. Is there suppose to be pressure at the couplers on the back of the tractor when idling and not touching the lever? This is on the back of tractor at the coupler plugs. I don't know crap about this tractor. Sounds like a real complicated system though. And I did a little more research and found it to be a 1962. So with that said can I rebuild the scv?

No there is not supposed to be flow at the couplers when the valve is in nutruel,, some pressure, when the valve was moved to allow pressure to stop at the port is normal but not to let a cylinder move, and your valve is one that should be changed out to fix,,they are not friendly to repair, the couplers can be serviced ..

Tim.
What in your opinion would be the scv to buy? Do you sell them redone?? Just wondering where to look and what to look for. Next is my couplers the problem too or is it more the scv valve causing all the issues? Sorry and thanks

A 3010/4010 will work,, a early 3020/4020 will work but they have a slightly larger fitting port, but that can be dealt with okay,, for the most part they do work well for a long time so most salvage yards will have some, and it's the Luck of the Draw ..I use Anderson Tractor in North western Ohio, but most will have them,, the coupler is only a problem if it leaks, and that can be taken care of...
