Not sure if my original message got out there so I am trying again. I'm new to this forum and have been reading alot but now have questions. Stabilizer chains on a mid 70s JD 2040. No place to attach on tractor or lower arms. Anyone have pics? Thanks!

Welcome to YT
JD 2040 utilized sway blocks to control draft arm movement not sway chains.

TX Jim is correct no sway chains on a 2040.You need an operators manual. The sway blocks can be installed in two different positions, like the pic below for cat I implements and out wide for cat II implements. The 2040 is a nice small tractor. I have one that Dad bought new in 1977 and it has over 6000 hours. Tom

Sway blocks can work very well installed correctly , if incorrect they can cause mass destruction , friend has one that he bought without blocks and tried to install himself after installation he was using his box blade pushing in reverse the lower arm went under the block as he was lifting and it broke causing his tractor to back onto the rippers on the box blade thus opening a large window in the tire tred and costing a new tire.

Ok, thanks. Mine does have the sway blocks. I just thought I was missing something w/o the chains, etc. I can see where that would be a mess if that happened like your friends. Thanks for the reply.

Thanks for the pic. Mine are installed that way. Again, I'm not a tractor pro here but enjoy messing with my 2040. Not sure but I think mine is a '76 model. Thanks for the welcome and the info!

Just turn the sway bars for Cat I for Cat I equipment . or Cat II width for Cat II equipment. Cat I equipmemt will flip and flop all over the place if the sway bars are set to Cat II.

Tom it is possible they aren't correct , but don't won't someone else going through the same trouble .
