Hi, looking for some info and production numbers on the JD 730 vegetable special. Is this a rare tractor and what is it worth in running but cosmetically poor condition? Also, wanting to know if a 730 diesel standard is considered rare and what a non restored one might be worth? Thanks.

There was never a 730 vegetable special tractor it was just a row crop tractor.A dealer would order a rowcrop tractor with the wheels and front end equipment for his area. Some collectors started calling them vegetable tractors but Deere never did. There is no way to know how many built and with the right parts any 730 could be made into one and it would be impossible to know if it left the factory that way. Tom

There were lots of 730 diesel standards in wheat country. My Dad bought one new in 1959 and I remember several neighbors who had them also.

Thanks, Tom. I found one that the guy said was a vegetable. It has longer rear axles and more adjustable wide front, according to the seller. I had never heard of one so wanted to try and get some info. What would a 730 be worth with 3 point and wide front and fair to poor tin work? Thanks.

Not sure of value but the longer rear axles and the wider frontends were just options in the price book. In Iowa such a tractor is very rare but not in CA or other vegetable areas. Tom
