jd 620 always starts with no choke. Today I went to start it and had to choke it. It ran for 10-15 second and died. It will start back up and do the same thing after it sets a minute or so. Maybe a carb problem? The tank has plenty of gas in it. Any thoughts?

Check fuel flow to carb. could be plugged vent in gas cap or gas line. Is it starving for fuel or flooding out? Is there a fuel fuel filter in the line?

The bowl on the carb. is probably leaking the gas out the load screw O-ring or bowl nut could be loose and therefore needs choke but not enough gas to keep running .

Rusty there is no vent in the gas cap if it the correct one the tank is vented thru a line that goes to the front and down by the steering pump. there were never any in line filters installed by Deere the auto fuel shutoff may be plugged

Oil pressure opens the gas flow from the tank to the carb.At the top of the sediment bulb there's a button you can push down to bypass the system. If the carb gets gas then the rubber diaphragm is bad or dirt has plugged it up.

It acts like it is starving for fuel. I have flow if I push the button on top of the sediment bowl. Would a bad float cause it to act this way?

Take the drain plug out of the bottom of the carb when it stops and see if the carbs dry. Maybe the float is stuck in the closed position.

My 620 has started with out the choke unless it is 10 degrees F or less. Pulling a 18 wheel rake it burns the same amount
of gallons per acre as my 70d standard. Pulling a heavy load the 70 burns less fuel

Try it on a dyno and measure the break specific fuel consumption . Bubba's recollections of fuel efficiency are not as accurate .

My 630 was doing that for awhile, lean out and die, then restart and run fine till it starved again. The problem came from a slug of rust that came out of the overhead fuel barrel when I gassed it up. Totally my fault for not having a screen in line from the fuel barrel. It has a screen now.
