John Deere Late B brakes

My late B gets oil all over the brakes.
Oil level in gearbox is correct.
The only thing close to an oil seal shown is the part number B2742R guard- dust.
Question is does this part have an oil seal incorporated into it?

If not how do I keep the oil off the brake linings on bothe right and left brakes ?
I have no clue from the parts manual on page 80 & 81 Item-18 is the guard - dust.

Thanks for all help in Oregon.

Maybe the drain holes in the brake housing or main case are plugged up ? How worn out are the bushings ?
And that dust guard does not have a seal In it.
Is someone oiling the little oil cups too often ?

(quoted from post at 09:05:29 06/18/16) The oil level in the final drive is too high. Have you been losing oil in the Powr-trol and adding oil to it?

Not adding any oil.
Just did a service and put in the 4.5 Gal.
Level comes to just below the fill hole to the right of the powertrol lower portion and just above the level of the PTO shaft, and final drive housing as in the manual picture on page 26. OM manual # R2006.
Shucks I was hoping there was a seal to replace.
Now I an stumped.
You should know I have not opened the brakes in several or, to many years. I have just been ignoring the poor functioning. Plenty of oil soaked lining there. ) :

The brake drum and linings are absolutely soaked to near dripping
Old Oil.
I only use the B about 15 to 20 hours a year so two or three drops oil in the brake cup is enough.

I do need to check for bushing wear.
Is trying to move the drum drive shaft axially and radially by hand a sufficient test ?

I am 73 this year and grew up in Indiana learening to hay with B'S and A's
Thank you all for the replies.
Of course we love those tractors don't we.

This is my first time at forums.
I think I like it. ( :}

I just rteread the replies.
I will have to look into the drain hole thing.
That must mean taking the brake drive housing free from the case to look into that.
Must be a drain hole back into the transmission case.
That could very well be my problem.
Maybe I can look for it on the parts manual.
It has a good picture of the case.

Thanks again.

Brake assembly will have to come off to inspect drain holes in main case. Wiggle the shaft around is about all you can do as I don't think there is a spec. for wear limits on those bushings. You need some play but not really a lot.
