Transmission on a JD 2520

Don't know if this a place for this or in garden tractors but I told the boss I would ask a question about his compact tractor problems on here. He has a 2520 with backhoe and bucket purchased in 2002 and is having a major leak in the transmission. I think its hydrostatic. He's had it it a couple of JD dealers, spent some money and they can't fix it. Sounds like they can't even tell him where its leaking so don't know if its seal, worn shaft, cracked housing, etc. Anybody had a similar experience. He is asking me to take a look but my closest tractor to his is 50 years older and red (or least used to be red). Newer machines give me a headache just thinking about all the bells and whistles on them. Any thoughts?

Some of those if the operator did not grease the universal joints on the drive shaft between the engine and transmission input shaft. The rattling shaking u-joints will ruin the input shaft, bearings and seals.
