JD 40s hydrualics

I have a JD 40s
that we are restoring the three point arms raise an will not go back down with the tractor running. The hydraulic pump is hot around 240 degree's and the line to the lift are cool. I am thinking a possible stuck relief valve. Any ideas from someone who knows the hydraulics on these tractors? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Did you rebuild the TOM? It sounds like the valve attached to the lever is stuck so that it is always trying to move the arms up. Does the 40 have draft control like the 420? Make sure the top link bracket isn't moved forward. That will make it lift the arms too.

Have not had time to look at it yet. We have not had the TOM apart. I have had the tractor for probably 20+ years. I overhauled the motor when I first got it and it has all been inside in storage since then. We put new gaskets and outer seals on the TMO but did nothing else to it because the hyd. oil was pretty clean. I guess I should have went deeper into it. My plan now is to check the valves and see if one is stuck or has dirt in it. Thank you for the info.
