What's it worth?

Have a guy that wants to trade this 60 for a diesel MF 65. says it has all new paint and rebuilt engine. Looks pretty good from what I can tell except for the rear tires. He also says he has 3 point for it. Thoughts/comments/opinions?

I would value what I see in the picture around 2000 on today's market . The 65 massey I have no idea as I can't see it. I want to say that trading can be good if the other person has something you really want or need, but trading tractors isn't my favorite way to trade , I like tractors but rarely get what I want and haven't ever been better after the trade . If you sell yours and buy his or whatever you may want you could possibly be happier as I think you maybe thinking that trade then sell maybe better than just selling to start with. If you are wanting to buy a 60 , look hard as the xx number tractors don't have the value of the xxx tractors and the new generation could even be a better choice if you intend on using it , more comforts and newer .

Hi Tell him to sell the Deere and come see you with the money you want for the Massey, if you are selling it or thinking about it. Chances are if it's the same as round here. The Massey is more desirable than the Deere to use, and those older tractors like this 60 are dropping back in demand to as most that want one have it. or the old guys are all dyeing/retiring and their tractors are being sold now and flooding the market.

It could be he either can't sell it or can't get the money he wants and he thinks you are stupid!
Part of the reason I quit selling used tractors was because guys always wanted to trade junk with cash in their favor!, or it was stuff guys couldn't get rid of themselves, and thought I was the sucker to find this out, and get stuck with it after the deal.

agree,if you go to the trouble of trying to make it great why not replace the grill screens and tires as well, and use john deere paint from john deere store, you can't clear coat real john deere paint.

In equal condition, the Massey is worth $ 1000 more. Has the good Perkins engine and REAL 3 pt hitch and live everything plus probably wide front end. He already knows he can't get that out of the 60, that's why he wants to trade.

The MF may need a new head gasket, smokes pretty bad, live PTO clutch needs readjusted, and the power steering doesn't work. Reading all your responses though I'm thinking I'll probably keep waiting.

Hi

Thanks for the update Even if the Massey needs fixing, and you want a tractor I'd fix it and keep it you know what you got then. If you don't want a tractor and can fix the Massey for a sensible price do it. also a cheap loader fitted, if you could find one makes it even more attractive to some guys and worth a bit more. From what I'm reading with some stupid questions that get asked on these boards sometimes, There are plenty of not so smart guys buying over priced junk for the new acreage . It's not what they need and are trying to use it or fix it.

Selling a good usable tractor with 3 point and all the other desirable features should be pretty easy if you are in the right place and you shouldn't loose if you don't spend to much doing it. not spending to much is the key part, Nice paint a total rebuild, new tires and all that fun Don't equal a $10.000 tractor for something old like these. Thats the problem with the 60 it needs probably a $1000 of tires to finnish it nice and he might have 3-$4000 already in a $2000 tractor, that isn't what a guy needs to use on his acerage .
Regards Robert

The mf does have a loader on it, just been for sale a while for $3000 and not really any bites. Kinda starting to think about just fixing it up and keeping it, except I just really do not like it.

Hi
This 2 pack paint and clear coat was never on tractors from the factory in those days, not everybody wants to see the big I'am with to much money rows of tractors in shows. My Grandfather laughed at a guy that brush painted a fordson to glass/mirror like finish with 27 (yes 27) coats of paint, and the fuel tap leaked and lifted a big patch back to bare metal at it's first show. Like he said concourse should be exactly as the day it left the factory new. Not just a fancy paint job some new parts where you would see worn out originals, and chrome and extra's where it shouldn't be.

Times are changing in some areas and guys are more interested in as found or original paint tractors at shows or want something they can drive without worrying about messing paint up with a leak or chips and scratches. Rows and rows of nothing more than concourse trailer queens are getting boring to them. Guys with them will never get the money back from them in a 100 years either, I saw some sell like that and the guy was at the front muttering well thats another 5000 I lost as the hammer fell! he'd lost about $40.000 when he was done..

In the right place factory paint is good, I got ford blue on some parts on a tractor here that's sat out for 10 years that paints as good as the day it was put on. I'm in Canada and it's seen some interesting weather to in that time.

Hi If you want 3000 and aren't getting any bites or even tire kickers, you are probably in the wrong area or maybe advertising at the wrong time of year will sometimes do that. I could probably get $4000 canadian for that round here or in my buddy's area. Maybe the acerage guys have to much money in your area , and they are buying new kubota's or some of the others, it happens round here a bit in certain places. Selling old iron has many variables and it's not an exact science every time, 10 sales can all be totally different for some reason in this area.
Regards Robert

shrug
just one of those things.
the MF is worth more, and is a handier tractor...
but, that means nothing if you don't like it and want a Deere.
I have a handful of JD 2 cylinders, both types, and like them.
Other makes do the work here, but the JD's would be the last to leave.

Others buy/sell/trade to make money, I couldn't care less.
You have something I want and I don't have the money, I'll trade ya something.
Get what you want, never look backwards.
Hobby? If I didn't spend $ on tractors, I'd spend it on something else. Gone is gone.....who cares.

ps on a trade, even a short stick one...at least ya don't have to deal with selling yours....to..ahem..buyers who expect a new condition tractor...for a couple thou

I see it has fenders and if it has JD 3pt complete they sell pretty well.I would guess with overhaul and it looks to have good paint $2000+.The Massey from your comments needs some help and if you don't like it the JD would probably sell easier.
