720 D cam install ?'s

got my cam back today had them put a mild puller grind on it. is it necessary to degree the cam or can i just put it back on the timing marks and be good to go? if need to degree the cam what is the correct process for doing that? also is there any thing special i should do at first start up to break in the fresh cam? i plan on using schaeffers moly ep oil treatment on cam at install, that is what we use on all the engines we overhaul at work and it seems to work pretty good. i watched a video saying you need to do some certain things so it don't go flat right away but they were talking about v8 performance engines so not sure how much that pertains to this.

there is also a card with specs and on the back side it talks about retarding and advancing the cam will give better low or high end performance depending on which way you go, is that something i should consider doing and how do i go about determining the appropriate amount and direction to go?

any thoughts or suggestions and experiences welcome. i do intend to call the shop that did the grinding and ask them these questions as well on Monday just thought i would get all your input too.

never had any experience with reground cams. if we put in a cam at work it is usually new and we just line up the timing marks and continue on with the rebuild so i want to do this right the first time since it is reground

thanks

I've found, on 2 different cams from 2 different cam grinders, that the original timing marks worked the best.

But it'll be good to see what your grinder says.

While decreeing the cam is not a complicated thing to do, it does require a bit of expertise to get it right. You would also need a degree wheel and dial indicator to start with. Then there is the fact that unless you have been doing that particular tractor before and know what degree it requires for optimum power you may not even get close to what runs best. Putting it in as factory might be your best option.

he said to start with factory timing marks and go from there if i think i need, like i'm gonna go through all the work of tearing everything apart again just to change it a tooth one way or the other haha.

he also said to run it in middle range of rpm for a while upon start up to keep the oil up there on everything, not idling for a while or wide open right away.
