John Deere 4600 - Good or Bad

Hi tractor experts.

We have a John Deere 4600 at the college that we teach at and I'm asking for opinions. The thing is that it is becoming unreliable and is starting to become a money pit. The latest issue is the fuel solenoid. It was replaced by the dealer and now 2 weeks later it has failed again, they suspect because of over voltage. My question, is this thing worth fixing right or should we be looking to replace.

This tractor operated a 16' bat wing mower on a 400 A. campus and is used to push snow off parking lots in the winter.

We're not opposed to having older equipment that is more reliable. So fix or replace. If replace, what models would you recommend. The replacement doesn't necessarily have to be Green, but we have a good relationship with our John Deere dealer. I'm asking for our grounds manager. The other key fact is that we do not have a maintenance person, just operators.

Thanks in advance, Larry

My son-laws fuel solenoid causes problems also. But finally he got a good one. He just uses his also. I think is a good tractor.

What is the HP requirement of your mower? A 16' batwing seems like it might be pushing the ability of the 4600.

The 4600 is about 35 PTO HP. Looking at a Woods spec sheet, they state a minimum of 40 to 55 HP for mowers of that size.
