Tim I have acquired a pretty clean JD 4020 gas. I know I hate to fool with the gas motors but this was cheap. The question is. I have a JD 466 out of a JD 6620 Titian II SH combine. It was ran low on oil but only had 1900 hours on it. The crankshaft polished out fine. So how much trouble would this block be to put in the JD 4020???

I saw in an earlier post you talked about the bolt patterns being different in the late model 466 blocks. I have switched the JD 466 combine motors into JD 4430 and JD 4230 and have had to modify the frame rails because of bolt pattern issues.

Hey what year of 4020 gas engine are you thinking of pulling out.
I could use one for parts if your interested in selling it.
thanks

The best thing to do with a 4020 Gas is toss the engine and put a diesel in it.I had 3 good gas engines here from change overs and I ended up giving them away. The best engine to use in a 4010/4020 engine swap is the non-turbo 404/466 they have nice low end power and will make 120HP which makes for a nice match in a 4020, they are a 4230/4040 style engine, the turbo with Big Bosch pumps fit, but they don't have the low end power that a smaller tractor needs. The latter 466's had a different bolt pattern on the front side frame, I think that engine you are thinking about has the different pattern,,go with the non turbo engine you will be happy with it,, call me if you want to discuss it...I'm always ready to talk about tractors...and to share what I know,,and of course to learn more.
