Trusty old 336 baler would bale 500 bales and not miss a tie. Then last year a chunk of hard wood like a big twig hit the arm where the tucker fingers are attached. Replaced the arm and one tucker finger adjusting rod; set by the manual but something wrong as knot won't leave bill hook. Any ideas?

Check wiper arm to bill hook force. May have bent the wiper arm. They can be bent back with a BFH or large adjustable wrench as they are malleable steel. See OM for the force.

Are you using last years twine? Sisal or plastic? If Sisal, try a fresh ball.

Thanks for the tips Lee and Roger. I did get out the operator's manual again and fine-tuned the tucker finger adjusters. Baled 300 this afternoon and only missed three and all from the right side. Sisal twine, yesterdays 450 bales used up the old twine and changed over to this years twine. Another question: Why do the needles have two eyes? ...and which ones should be used?

A dull twine knife is one of the most over looked issues on a knotter giving trouble, what happens is if the twine is not cut as soon as the knife touches it the knotter timing continues a bit more as the knife is drawn tighter on the twine, then actually cutting the twine "too Late" thus making the knot draw tighter on the bill hook making it harder to wipe off..
