Getting my plans together for rebuilding my B. What compression ratio can I shoot for to be able to run on 87 octane? .....And same question if I run premium. Just thinking about giving it a bit more for plowday and maybe local pull. Thank you

It helps to know the Model and/or Year of that "B".

The "LATE STYLED "B" has a good creeper (Low) gear and that is is really enough for some Hard Pulling with little or NO worries about running out of power..

The earlier JD "B" have a 1st gear about equal to the Late Styled
"B" Second Gear.

If that is you goal, you are going to NEED More Cu. In., etc..

In the Early Models with the sparkplug in the cylinder block, 7:1 is about all you can get away with and still use 87 (at FULL Load)..

Installing a Crankshaft with more Stroke will get the job done AND raise your compression at the same time..Many options are available, going this route..

Either way, the engine will need a Fresh cylinder Bore surface for the new rings and higher piston travel..
