'52 60, starter switch question

I ordered a brand new starter switch for my 1952 John Deere 60, but the new switch has a screw/terminal on the side and the old one does not. Can I just hook it up with nothing connected to the little side terminal? Connect as the old one was with one big post and it will still work? Thank you in advance.

The purpose of the little terminal is to bypass the primary ignition resistor during cranking for applications that include that feature and can be ignored if the tractor isn't set up that way.

As below, not needed. Good idea to remove the nut and washer and tape/goop it up for isolation purposes. HTH

I assume your tractor doesn't use a 6 volt coil and ballast resistor like the later 20 series, which is when that switch is used, Id just go ahead and leave it as is and don't use that small 3rd terminal. That way if you ever converted your tractor to the later 20 series ignition which can start a bit better when its extremely cold, you already have the correct switch. Of course it will still work fine on your 60.

Yes.

Agree with [b:654c4848f0]Bob[/b:654c4848f0]'s reply "[i:654c4848f0]The purpose of the little terminal is to bypass the primary ignition resistor during cranking for applications that include that feature and can be ignored if the tractor isn't set up that way.[/i:654c4848f0]"

Take a look at the diagram below.
