tried to do a search but just wasn't getting it done so here goes. our 2040 is up for an engine overhaul dad bought it new has 5000hrs on it and i got dust in it last summer so out comes the engine . well i am removing the front end forward from the block and i have the four bolts removed and the hydraulic pump coupling is apart and can't seem to get the castings to seperate. got things blocked and jacked up in several places. did some tapping with the sledge and a block of wood . thinking the dowels are stuck just wanted to see if any tricks were involved or just been to long of day. thanks all.

I have never seen a 2040 but i have
always found 6 bolts or more on the
bellhousing. Look under the dash. Don't
ask me why but a starter will often have
to be removed as well. Check your
service book some Trans require stuff to
be undone or you'll spend money on more
stuff.

i doing ok at the bellhousing split the one that has me stuck is from the engine forward. i may have to invest in the manual.

There are 6 bolts on the front split also. 2 come in from the rear and 4 from the front. The 2 lower front ones are accessed from underneath.

Free parts book in the JD web site shows the location of hidden fasteners.
Is your tractor the 3 cylinder 2040 or the four cylinder turbo 2040?
Specifications for engine inspection and assembly are at 1-800-522-7448.
