Service Bulletin C404R Clutch Pin

(quoted from post at 20:16:43 05/22/16) I've got a CD with all the old service bulletins. I need to know more info to look it up. Ron Mn

Hi Ron. I posted a youtube video to show the C404R pin wear and how it wobbles in the sleeve. I gentleman told me about a service bulletin that came out in the 40's about repairing this pin and the worn out hole in the sleeve.

That loose pin will cause you the trouble you are having. On my GP, I had a machinest thread the hole and then turned the bolt down to fit in a new hole in the clutch operating sleeve. The new pin(bolt) was loctited in place.

I don't have the sleeve of to see at this time, but doesn't the sleeve have multiple holes for that pin to be able to go in right before you press the sleeve on? That way I would have to make a new hole. It looks that way in the casting.

Correction: "wouldN'T" have to make a new hole.

(quoted from post at 08:56:56 05/23/16) I looked and haven't found this one yet. Ron Mn PS I think it was covered in a Green Magazine article though.

I think that about all we had was me writing about the way I did it on my "R". A new bushing+brute force=wiggle free clutch lever.

We just measured and seen what would work the easiest and best. Seems to help if you measure the hole in the operating sleeve 1st. See if it's oblong and needs to be drilled for a larger pin.
