4430 won't run vacuum planter

Hey all,

My 4430 won't run my new-to-me 6 row 7200 vacuum planter. Well, it will, but not for long. I changed the oil filter and it seems to have been clean. I have a power beyond block, but whoever installed it put it on the RH remote. I am running the vacuum on the block, but returning the oil to sump through a separate fitting. When the tractor is running, it will run the vac at 1500 rpm, but won't lift the planter at the same time. I have 2400 PSI out the block. I plugged my pressure tester into a remote with the vac running and get no pressure until I reach 1500 RPM, then I get 500-1000 psi. I can get 2400 psi at PTO speed.

I've been told I need to move the power beyond to the left side and not use the sump fitting in order to get it to work. Is this right? I've also been told by another person that a 4430 will never be able to run a vacuum planter - not enough oil capacity.

For now, I'm pulling it with my 4840 with power beyond and it works like a champ. But, it gets old switching implements constantly, especially when I now have the 4430 sitting. That, and a 4840 is a bit overkill on a 6 row planter.

Advice?

If I understand you correctly you are dumping return oil directly to sump correct? If this is the case it will never work correctly, you need to return oil back through the return side of the power beyond block. Your transmission pump is basically running out of capacity and that's why your seeing low pressures. I'm not sure about the right side left side deal, but someone else will know.

I run a 12-row 1760 vacuum planter with a
late model 4020 and get along just fine. I
run the Power Beyond block ahead of the left
remote. I run Pro Max seed disks with
around 20+ inches of vacuum. So your 4430
should run your planter. Switch the block
and you should be fine. Mike

Also, I keep the RH outlet dedicated for planter lift. The LH is split between the markers and the vacuum. I raise the markers first so when the planter is raised only two functions are needed. Mike

Why return oil to the sump when the power beyond block can return oil between the transmission pump discharge and the transmission filter inlet ?

I was told that it keeps the oil from getting too hot.

Thanks to everyone for their input. I'll change the block to the other side, run the return into it and see what happens.

Find the person who told you that and tune them up.
Dumping oil into the transmission case is not moving oil through the oil cooler up there by the radiator.

I have an 8row 7200 my book for the planter reads run the vac on the right hand valve and lift on left my markers operate with up and down of the planter i also have front fold fore transport run that on the top right valve (ie)3 rd valve this is a 4430 tractor and never had any trouble running this planter
