JD 530 Valve Cover

I have a 1959 JD 530 that I bought in 2009 and started to restore but the person who was going to paint passed away and the tractor sat until now. I started going over things recently and noticed the valve cover has an approx. 7/8 in factory round hole in it that looks like a cap or something is missing. I don't recall removing anything from the hole when I first got the tractor. Does anyone know what goes in this hole and the part number. I do have a shop manual but nothing to show the valve cover and the part number of the item missing. Your help in this matter will be greatly appreciated. Charles

You can download a free parts manual at www.jdparts.com. On page 22 it shows a ventilator outlet tube. B7723r

Sounds like the opening for the breather tube--"Tube, ventilator outlet". It take an o-ring as the seal. Might be the same parts as a 620, which is the catalog I have handy.

Tube F1419R (general-purpose and standard)
O-ring R495R (probably just a standard Buna-N o-ring)

Thank you guys for responding. Actually I've had other John Deere 2 cylinders and do remember now (because of your posts) that the valve cover did have some kind of vent pipe. Thanks again so much.....Charles
