inexpensive timing light

Does anyone know where I can get a good inexpensive timing light that will do 6 and 12 volt tractors. My old one just ran the spark voltage through the light. No muss no fuss. Worked great for years but I broke it. I can't find that type of light anywhere. Maybe the new high voltage ignitions won't allow this anymore. I'd rather not have to hook wires to my battery to operate the light.

I have an old Penske timing light. works fine on 12 volt but on 6 volt I hook battery leads to a 12 volt battery to get enough light.

Get a self-powered one.

They can be used on 6 Volts, 12 Volts, etc., or magneto systems and only require the spark pickup lead, no power cord to the vehicle battery to tangle or get in moving parts.
ONE example

I also have, and still use, an old timing light like you describe. They may not make those any more, but do a search for "self powered timing light". They are battery powered, and aren't that expensive. I suspect they give a lot brighter light than the old spark powered ones.

I have an old one that you plug the cord into 110 volt outlet and then hook a lead up to the spark plug wire to trip it. This one works nice on the 6 volt machines or ones without a battery as it shines brighter. My other one clips onto a battery to power it and another lead to trip it.

I use my old 12 volt timing light on my hand start "B" with a magneto. Just hook the battery leads to any 12 volt battery. I use the one on my lawn mower.
