Chopper blower

We have a 35 chopper that will not blow haylage, does corn silage fine. We have checked paddle clearance with the nickel and dime method. I understand a cupped style paddle will move more air. Does anyone have any experience with this. Does anyone know if these are available after market.

Moisture level of the crop makes a big difference. IIRC some choppers had a tank for adding a bit of water. Did you try extra dry? There is a sweet spot.

Hood is another term for spout. The liner needs to be smooth, with no holes worn through. How worn are your paddles? You said you adjusted them, but are the edges worn? If so, you can take them off, square them with a grinder, and get a nice sharp, square edge. Or replace the paddles. My experience with cupped paddles on all brands of equipment is they concentrate the wear on the mid section of the blower band, and cause premature band failure.

Are you trying to chop alfalfa, or grass? If it is pure alfalfa and the hood (spout) is getting lots of tar in it, you may need to chop a little wetter, or add some sort of water injector.

If all of below fails to fix your problem they made a fan speed up kit for the 38 harvesters. It should work on the 35 as well. We sped up our 38 many years ago as we only used it for hay. Most likely new fan paddles and a new liner will fix your problem. Just remember there were no 18 ft. wagons when your 35 was new.We have a 35 and a 3940 that we use.Tom
