Identifying B JD DLTX Carbureter

Am working on a B John Deere carb that has been worked on by unknown people before me and the first thing I need to do is identify it correctly. It is marked DLTX?4. The 5th character is imperfect due to the mold not being quite perfect. My first impression was that it was an S or a G but that doesn't seem to fit with what I'm seeing on the forum. Other more likely possibilities are an 8 a 6. The last numeral is most definately a 4. Don't have the year or SN available at the momemt. It is a dual-fuel, hand crank with the radiator not exposed. If SN is needed, I can get it tomorrow. Another thing...from looking through the forum, I seem to be missing something...a spring from the vertical tube that comes down thru thru the float and bears against the bottom of the float bowl. Did they all have one and is it necessary. There's a lot of rust and I don't think there's any danger of the brass thingy inside falling out. Pardon my ignorance...I was raised on red stuff.

Model B Serial No. B96001-B200999 Marvel-Schebler DLTX-34 All Fuel John Deere Part Number AB2711R.

Hope this helps.

Probably a 34 carb. OEM for styled B before '47. Doesn't need the spring since nozzle is probably corroded in tight anyway.

Well you WILL need that spring because YOU NEED to remove that nozzle for cleaning same with all of the brass plugs so you can get at all the passages. It will NEVER run right unless you do.
Roberts carb. has a nice website with illustrations. They also sell how to instructional videos.

Of course you are right, Mike, but he mentioned nothing about attempting to rebuild this carb especially since it sounds like his first JD. My answer reflected the very question he asked...and it doesn't need that spring at this point...that's all he asked. I make no assumptions as to someones intentions. Just clarifying my answer...nothing more.
