I have a 2510 JD. It has a new battery and I just replaced the selonoid. It will start fine if I have a battery boost on it.
Than the next time I try start it I have nothing. Lights work but will not turn over. Put charger on and it fires right up.
The generator light comes on at low idle. Any help would be appreciated. I don't want to keep buying parts I don't need.
Thanks

Since you state replaced battery I'll guess your tractor has a gasoline engine. Have you cleaned/tightened where battery cable attaches to tractor?

The 2510 was an economy tractor; Deere tried to save wherever they could with it. Consequently, a 2510 does not have a starter relay like the larger 3020 and 4020 do. Therefore it takes a good 12 volts to
engage the selinoid (more fussy this way than relay equipped tractors). I'd suggest you follow Jim's suggestion, and make sure ALL battery connections are clean, and that the cables are in good shape.

Been there and done that on one of these! Good luck.

I've had similar problems on my 2510. I see that JD Parts has for 3020 a start relay for $25.37, RE164448. Could we install this on our 2510s?

YES and the relay if wired correctly will help starting problems.

Check your battery cables. If they are anything less than perfect replace them as well as doing what was posted below. Get good heavy cables and maybe run the ground to one of the starter mounting bolts. I had a 3020 that we feed cattle with every day give problems two winters ago and the cables and ends looked good but we finally replaced them and when cut open they were full of corrosion. Tom
