I know there is no definite best solution answer here but my mind is wandering this morning as I enjoy my first cup of coffee....kind of a "should I or shouldn't I" deal. My field needing bushhogging brings to mind it's time to make a move.
My 60 sprung a water pump leak. As suggested here in the forums rather than go for a new water pump right away trying a container of Bars Leak was suggested. My 60 holds over 8 gallons of anti-freeze. One container of Bars Leak treats 4 gallons. Did that & the leak has subsided partially but not completely. Now I'm wondering if I should pick up another Bars Leak as suggested on the container if the first dose doesn't do the trick completely. Using too much of this stuff COULD clog areas you don't want to clog...but thereagain I'm not working a farm with the tractor where I'm putting it to daily heavy work either.
I'm wondering how hard the water pump is to change out if I go that route. Any of you ever done this to know how difficult a job it is? I already checked with the John Deere dealer & the pump is about $160 without the impeller. Impeller another $70 or so. When I take off the 4 bolts holding the pump/pulley on, is it a gear that comes out with it that hooks into the impeller or does the impeller have to come right out with it?
Ideas, suggestions, especially info from someone who has done the pump replacement would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Arnie
PS- In case it matters, my serial number is 6047500. I say that cause I think I read somewhere that the 60 may have had two different water pumps through the years.
