JD 70 LP Standard

Last month, I bought what I thought was a 70 LP row crop that had been converted to gasoline. I posted on this forum then questioning the different rear axle and wheels it had compared to other 70 row crops I have seen, and several on here said that the rear axle looked like that off of a standard model. I sent the serial number into the Two-Cylinder Club to have it checked out, and it turned out to be an LP standard, most likely a rice tractor because it is from the Texas coastal region.

Now, my question is this: seeing as a 70 LP Standard is quite rare, would it be worth trying to find all of the parts to convert it back? I suppose I would also be open to selling it to someone with the intention of doing that as well.

Thanks for any input in advance.

Clint N,

Nice find! If it were me, i would go back original cause they arent something you would see very often. I have a 70 diesel stnd, and an LP would be a neat match to it.

If you decide to sell it think of me haha

A friend of mine had a 630 that had a 630LP tag. He told me that he step on the brake one day and that it cracked the main case, so he found a parted out 630LP tractor an put that case on it. The tractor was a gasoline originally. He never swapped out the tags. Now the only problem is that if there is a serial# break for a modification for some reason you will know if you are before the break or after the break and what year the tractor was built.

The previous owner told me that the tractor had been in the family a long time and had originally been LP. He didn't tell me anything about it being a standard, but he did say that it had a heavier rear axle than other row crops, which is what got me to thinking it was something different. As others pointed out in my previous post, the brakes and the operator platform are also for a standard.

As I stated before, the rear axle, operators platform,
and brakes are that of a 70 standard. I originally just
thought it had a different rear axle, but the back
wheels are not for a 70 - they are off of a 3010 or
similar. Considering all of this, I think it is pretty
likely that the tractor started out at a standard.

Those later images revel much more info.
As previously stated. She is a Johnny Cash " One piece at a time " mix of a little bit of everything.
