Would a 40U make a good plow tractor?

I have an opportunity to buy a beautiful 40U. Since it is much lower than a regular 40 do you think it would do alright plowing? I am concerned that it does not have the proper ground clearance. The most I would use it to plow would be at my clubs plow day in the spring and fall so it is not like I am going to make a living with it.

I wouldn't know why you couldn't plough with it ? Back when that was made plows were only made to go around 6 to 7 inches deep. I think the rule of thumb was 1/2 the width of cut ?
Only problem I see is the one I had at a plow day with my M and it can be prevented if YOU are the only one out there OR BE EXTRA CAREFULL. I ended up behind most and it seemed like I ended up in the dead furrow in the middle. It was so deep because the others didn't lift there plows up a little and then it was unequal distances and I got my front end stuck in two dead furrows at the same time ! This is the moment I then realized why I have seen some of these little tractors with the front ends all bowed out ! I stopped and was able to stomp on a brake and slowly climb up out of that mess.
The 40U are sort of rare with maybe 5 or 6 thousand made ? They usually don't bring any more than the common 40T models though.

Thanks. I usually take my M to the plow day and I know what you mean regarding furrow depths. I was thinking about selling my M and buying the 40U to replace it. Having the 3-pt hitch would make it more user friendly with my implements. I like how it has a lower center of gravity too.

Funny you say that, I just picked up a 3-pt hitch conversion for my M. I have yet to put it on the tractor but I hope to sometime this summer.

Becareful with those on an M. The top link will come up and bend up the tool box under the seat. Those conversions work better on the taller MT model.
