What Do You Think? Original 730620

I posted these pics on the tractor talk forum and got a lot of "thats rediculous" responses about the selling prices. I think the 620 is on the high side but not sure if its rediculous given the mechanical condition it was in. What do some of you John Deere 2 cyl collectors think? The 730 was a diesel with factory electric start, clamshell fenders, and the flywheel has been "taper locked". The 620 was fully functional with factory power steering.
Both tractors were in very good original condition. That seems to make them worth a bit more around here (south central Michigan).
730 - $6,900 3pt sold seperately
620 - $4,750 3pt sold seperately

It's good to see 2 cylinder values hanging in there. To me, the 730 isn't a surprise if she ran good. (Somewhere back in the day, it had been repainted) The 620 is original and pretty darned straight, but needs a set of tires. I wouldn't have paid that much for it, but it does make me feel good, as maybe my stuff is worth more than I thought. ;)

Where was the sale?

The sale was north east of Albion about 4 miles. Just north of 94 on Ludlow rd. There was an older gentleman who was retiring that had owned the tractors for nearly 50 years. The 730 was a second owner. I drove both tractors. 730 had a slow lope at idle. The 620 had a severely worn clutch handle but I couldn't find anything else wrong with either one.

The prices may seem to be high, but I bet those are two tractors you could take right out in the
field & use today. I have a 620 that's a little newer & 730 pony start, one would have to add some
dollars to the selling price to buy them off me.

You never know how a sale will go. Two people wanting the same item. . .

Tractors aren't all beat up.

If I remember your other post, you said the three points sold separately for $1000. That would have been a deal breaker for me.

The 620 clutch dust cover is interesting - appears to have a hole in the center. Never saw one like that.

I have been told by several old timers that when the clutch or throwout bearing gets worn that the nut on the end of the shaft can develope play and walk out toward the end cover. I've seen some old tractors where when you disengage the clutch the pulley will move horizontally. I suppose if run long enough it would wear a hole in the cover. I have also been told that if that cover is missing it's a good sign that the tractor has or has had clutch trouble.

Thanks for the explanation - A hole like that would also indicate that it had ran an awful lot with the clutch disengaged, possibly on PTO work.

I had trouble keeping the dust cover on my 630, so the last time I rebuilt the clutch, I put new cover clips in it, and it stays on nice now.

around here a 620 that rough would be lucky to bring $2500 & I just bought a good running el start 730 diesel wide front for $4000 ...both with three point hitches

Paint does nothing to the mechanical condition of the tractor.I sell many tractors and prefer them in their everyday clothes.
