Good day , I have searched and found all the posts on this subject of converting 24 volt to 12 volt on a 3010 diesel. does anyone happen to have the wiring diagram for this , I think I have a 12 volt starter for this project, just not sure about the wiring , reading it not quite same as wire diagram for me anyways. One wire or 3 wire delco alternator ? thanks for any info for this. I guess I could take the starter to electric shop and they could tell me if 12 or 24 volt starter?
thanks again . Bob

After changing batteries from series to parallel attach brown wire at starter in original photo below to top post of solenoid along with the blue wire. Other than alt wiring change that's all that needs changed on wiring harness. Fuel gauge to operate correctly need to be changed to different polarity fuel gauge.I think fuel gauge AR45436 will be the correct gauge. I personally prefer the Delco alt with 3 wires.

thanks TxJim I have leave for couple weeks plus Injector pump took a dump so found a reasonable place to send it to , I should be done and back by time I return , thing ran great when parked it , amazing how
stuff breaks sitting around.

I will check , have dig around in shop but pretty sure I remember seeing a starter sitting back on shelf, Don't think it has a tag so maybe stamped on there.

use a 3 wire alternator. It is good to have an exciter wire that runs through the gen indicator light. Then you know the alternator is working. It is very simple to hook up. You get the little plug with two pigtail wires to go in the alternator. Terminal 1 is for the exciter wire, and 2 is the voltage sensor wire which most just hook into the main output post.

Sky, some kits offer circuit breakers for the brown and blue wires going to the starter since there isn't any protection for the wiring. They are mounted on a plate of steel that is usually mounted using the solenoid screws. Problem is they aren't cheap, but cheaper than a fire. chris

Although addition of circuit breakers to 24 volt system is a good idea the possibility 12 volt electrical system shorting & causing a fire is much less on 12 volt system than a 24 volt system.

12V Delco or Nippo starter won't clear the fuel filters.
Some people ground the inner terminal on the 24V starter
and use it as 12V. I don't know what you lose that way.
