Looks like an A to me-Muffler on a B is smaller at top.

6 bars on the grill, model B. Looks like the early style decal of "JOHN DEERE" on the hood but not sure.

Its a Model B, look at the Brakes (has the cast cover over the drum) and the Rear Skeleton wheels, A skeleton wheels have more spokes.

Thanks for the fast help guys, I found the picture a few days ago and trying to date. I was reading in an old diary of my stepdad's mother from WW2, she stated how hard it was to get farm equipment and that Guss had made corn plows for the tractor. My step dad was in Germany at the time, June 1944

Has to be a 1939 or 1940 "B". Grille bars are right for a "B" and brake hoods are only used up through 1940. (I always count the grille screen openings, 7 for a "B" and 8 for an "A".)

I agree. And also the muffler of that style even with the air stack on B's was special to 1939 & 40

Take a look at the brakes on "Uncle Earl" our 39B.

Take a look at the muffler and air stack on "Uncle Earl" our 39B.

Since I see no cultivator truss rods going to pedestal of tractor, I would assume the large bar across front is the farmer make-over to support the rearward movement of cultivator when in ground. Never saw anything from factory like that.

Since you guys have it narrowed down I did a lot more reading in diary and can't find anything on tractor as to when it was purchased. The only entry about tractor was in 1944, about the corn plows that Guss built. The field that the picture taken in has wheat today and will double crop beans if weather allows.
