I'm about to do something I haven't done very often before... remove the engine from this still-functioning combine to install it in an old 644 loader (for a customer).

I has always bugged me to part out a piece of machinery that is still functional.

While it may bother you,"re-purposing" is lot better than just have it sitting in the hedge row rusting and have the engine tie up. There are alot of useable parts, and what is left is scrap. The lights fit pretty much anything, the steering wheel, since it has been protected in the cab will bring a premium to a restorer. The tires and wheels will bring something. If you have the time and ambition it will bring more in a pile than it would complete.

Going into the loader you showed a couple weeks ago with the bad engine. I have a 644A THAT IS SOME HARD STARTING. It needs just a small whiff into the JD adapter in the cab while spinning the engine. Just got the loader and don't know a lot about it. Have read that those engines where hard starters from new--from what I have read here on the web..............

We can do that... I get wait's left, my main interest is the hydro. You still have my email?

I had an 8820 and they were built to last compared to the new ones.Combine motors usually don't get 1/2 the hours a tractor would.Like giving a heart, kidney or something to someone who needs it.With steel down to $25/50 a ton from close to $300+ there isn't much salvage value compared to parts.

One thing about combines - they can look good on the outside, but be worn out on the inside. Maybe this old 8820's only other option was the combine demo derby. You've got a better use for her than that....

It actually isn't in too bad of shape. The P.O. is just a guy who moves on and what is leftover needs to go NOW.

He could have taken it to a recent sale 20 miles away and gotten 2 or three times what he asked for it, but that is not how he does things.
