A couple of daays ago I was doing some work with my MC, the blade starting acting light the fluid level was low, so I headed for the shop. Shut her down and waited an hour or so, went out and check for hyd fluid and it was eal low. Checked engine oil and it was real high. It was on full before I fired it up earlier.
I figured the seal in the pump was bad so I proceded to remove the pump.. That is getting more difficult as the years go by..

Upon pump removal, it appears that the either the seal backed out a bit or the cam shaft moved forward a bit. The spline adapter had been rubbing on the seal causing damage. The pump was rebuilt about 6 years ago. I think the seal was seated correctly.

Question: has anyone had the seal move or can the cam move forward and should I be able to check for that?

I am waiting for parts now so wanted to ask for advice.

thanks.

I have rebuilt a lot of hydraulic pumps in my time including gear, piston, and vane pumps and I have yet to see one that permits the shaft to float. I don't know what type of pump you are dealing with but I suspect you have some bad bearings and or a worn housing. The pump on my JD 40 is a gear pump.

I would suspect that it is very similar to a 40 pump. if not the same one. I don't think the shaft is moving, it can't really unless the housing is really worn bad. the drive shaft drives from the adapter that is bolted to the front of the cam and the shaft just floats in the splines. The only thing that really makes sense to me is if the seal moved or was not seated all the way when it was installed.

My guess is the bearing was seated flush causing excessive pressure. Here's the service bulletin.

Thanks, this may very well explain my problem. My system was home made for a belt driven pump by a previous owner and I installed the pump. I do not know what pressures It is building and do not know IF there is any pressure by pass valve installed. It is time to re engineer it.
thanks
