R+P axles, to use or not to use Never-Seez?

Hello, need to change wheel spacing on a 3020. Would like to know if anybody has coated the axle wedges with Never-Seez before reassembling, or if they won't stay tight thereafter? Perhaps neverseez between wedges and wheel center, but none between wedges and axles?
Thank you all.

Yes lube them up,, never seize is good but messy,, I use sticky red grease,,and that stuff will follow you around the shop all day too...

I have neversiezed the pinions and bolts but stay with grease on the wedges. I don't want something too good on there as sometimes you get too much force tightening them and split the castings.
I secret to getting them tight so they stay tight is not so much brute force as much as get them tight and run it then keep retightening them and running it until you cannot get anymore on them. Check early and often until they get seated.

I use never seize on these parts because it
works. You will not harm anything in it's
use in this application. Once everything is apart give it all a good cleaning and lubricate with the never seize. When you tighten the clamp
bolts do so EVENLY and you should be good to go.
Never a problem in decades of doing this.
Mike

You might apply some on the rack & pinion & even alittle on the axle.
But I'd never put any on the wedges to cast center. I couldn't keep the
wheels tight after I did it to ours. Kept tightening the wedges, more & more
& then one day a Crack appeared on the cast center coming out from the wedges.

I've used it on wedges for years on tractors used regularly on heavy loads. No wheels ever coming loose, no castings cracked in many years of use. My guess is something else caused your problem, not the never seize. Mike

I used wax paper.. This was on a 3020 that had a mounted picker put on every fall, which means the wheels had to be moved out in September and back in when the picker came off. Never had any problem with the wheels coming loose, never any problem getting the wheels to move. Old John Deere mechanic showed me this trick.

I use about half a can of anti seize on the wedges
the axle the inside of the hub then torque it all down
with my John Deere 3/4 breaker bar and 4 foot
Cheater pipe they don't come loose
