1940 John Deere H

I noticed that the flywheel is slowly moving off the shaft and is not currently flush with it. There are some bolts on the inside of the flywheel that tighten/loosen it on the shaft. Is it as simple as loosening it and pushing i back on? That just seems to easy enougj of a fix. Any thoughts?

Yes it is that simple. A special wrench made for the nuts really helps. Move it in so as to end up with .005"-.010" of end play on the crankshaft when you grab the flywheel and yank it in and out.
There are 2 grooves in the flywheel and a notch in the crank so you can get a pry bar in there and pull the crank into the flywheel farther because on the H you cannot hold the crank from the other side.

Yep that simple. I had a similar problem on my 31 D. Didn't seem that I could get the bolts tight enough to hold it in the position I wanted for end play. After trying to tighten up everything and keep it tight and still sliding out I came up with a solution. I took a beer can and it took a lot of time but I formed the can to the crank and then gently slid the flywheel over the can being careful not to wad the can up with the flywheel. I tightened it back down and haven't had any trouble yet. Hope it stays that way.

You can also bump the flywheel with a block or rubber mallet
to draw the crank through. Like putting a handle on an ax or hammer.
If it's worn you might have to do like the guy with the D.
