420U serial tag missing

I've just acquired a very nice 420U slant steer tractor however is missing the serial tag. I've seen in some discussions that there may be a number stamped into the block. If this is the case could someone advise me where to look for it and perhaps recommend how to go about getting a replacement.Thanks.

Look on the right side of the motor block below the front spark plug you will see a nunber stamped vertical close to the hydro pump. (C5657 on a 420W that I had replaced). Go to your John Deere dealer and they will give you the paperwork to send in to HQ. The district JD rep. Will come out and put the new tag on, it will be a wider tag. It will take time.

When you go to the dealership, they may not know the procedures or even what you are talking about. They will need to get with their area rep and he will be able to take care of things. During the 21 years I worked at the dealership, we did it one time, and that was about the second or third year I worked there.
I don't remember that much about the procedure, but at that time, the rep had to go and install the new tag himself. The new tag will not look like the original tag, it will look more like what they use now. When I left last May, there were probably only a couple of us left at the store that were even aware of this procedure.
