I got my PS manual and read through it once so far. The PS system now makes sense. I have disassembled the worm housing and valve assembly. Just wondering what parts should be replaced while its apart. It needs new bearings (front worn one fell apart) going to put in the 2 dowel pins (don't see a lot of wear on them) in the Steering sleeve. It has the special set screw in the sleeve, is there a reason to replace this? There is a little wear on the side. But is expensive for what it is. Does this cause issues?
And one small shim or washer that I am not sure where it came from yet.
I haven't started to take apart the pedestal yet. Not sure if I will have enough time doo do it.

The two dowel pins can be flipped over to use the unworn end. The expensive pointy screw needs to be replaced because the one sweet spot where the adjustment is best is right where it is worn and a little to much play makes a big problem in these systems.

When working on it, just be sure to get any adjustments or clearances as close/tight as you can. Any extra play makes these systems a pain.

Good point that it might be an aluminum sealing washer. I had that very thing happen to me. Btw, they are still available from Deere, about $1.50 apiece.

have no idea where the washer came from.
Also found broken bolts in the front pedestal that holds the vane bracket on.
Found ps pump seal was smashed when installed and was causing the leak.
