4430 with knock advise, FOUND IT!

Got the pan off and it had a rod bolt in the pan. It came off cyl#6 the upper bolt and it was bent. Now I'm going to get a better look in there and make sure it didn't damage anything. That bolt caught something to bend it. If all looks good I'll do an inframe on it.

Should be fun. It's my first OH with sleeves.

And remember the rod bolts are a one time use. Use the old bolts to check bearing clearance with plasticguage. chris

(quoted from post at 20:56:52 02/12/16) What makes the bolts come loose?

Previous rebuilders reusing old fasteners in critical load applications.
Torquing via by guess and by golly or using an out of spec torque wrench.
Good catch to nab that failure before it became worse.

As I said.... a common problem in those engines.
If you look closely at the head you will see where the piston was bumping it.
No damage to head just marked in carbon.

I'm wondering about the quality of the assembly on the engine. Almost all of the bolts I removed came out alot easier then I thought they should.

The injectors were just barely tight enough to hold. One injector just refuses to come out, it's carboned in so bad. The nut is loose and it jacked out some but won't budge the rest of the way. I have the head laying injector up and put some carb dip on it. I'm hoping it will work in and chew on the carbon some.

I don't know what year yours is but on the latter ones I used a nut off an old line and welded it to a nut that would fit my slide hammer and removed tough ones that way,, take care not to mess the threads up as you are forcing it out with the injector nut..

hello, again,, glad she did not make a window in the side of the block.. these bolts tend to work loose with many hours and age,, that is why i sent you a detailed procedure on how to fix it so that this won't happen again refer to my message from last time if,, you want to fix it right.
