I'm looking for specs on my 53 john deere 60 crank. Like what the main journal a and the rod journals are supposed to mic. Thanks
 
I have '53 -60 as well. According to Service Manual 2008 (get one);
LH Main Journal -- 2.749" - 2.750"
RH " " -- 2.999" - 3.000"
Con rod " -- 2.955" - 3.000"
Endplay -- .005" - .010"

Hi Bob - in your SM-2008, what does the header at the top of the page say? The crank journal info in my SM-2008 is for a JD B! The facing page, on the left, is also suspect, because it mentions JD B serial number in the header. I "think" the right hand main journal is actually bumping 4 inches. This is one case where the IT manual outshines the genuine bonaphyde JD manual.

The factory service bulletions , republished by Duane Larson's estate . They contain some info not covered by the service manual.
 
Howdy Paul. You are right about the page header - never noticed. On page 60-15-5 it shows micing the journals and uses the rod journal # in above post. I mic'd the rod shells that came out of mine and they are that spec. Never had the mains out. Interesting.
 
My Federal- Mogul Brg. manual says LH Main is 2.749- 2.750 .004-.006 clearance RT. Main 2.999-3.000 Clearance .004-.006 Con Rod journal 2.9985-3.000 clearance .002-.004 I like clearance of .0035 on con rods & min .005 on mains with alum. alloy brg. The machining of the main brg. in housing has to be precise, (minutely exact ).
 
Paul, another thought. If you look in the parts manual, the crank mains do not appear to be as large as you state. ;^)
 
Yes, you are right Bob! I took another look at my manuals, and now I can't figure out where I got those numbers. I apologize for the mixup. I made myself a note on that page in my SM-2008, but I should have been more specific. Now it's a mystery that I'll lay in bed tonight and ponder.
