4010 hard to shift

My neighbor has a 4010 that's hard to shift & I'm hoping to help him repair it. The tractor can be started in gear with the clutch held down but
can not be shifted with the engine running. I did a query here & most often mentioned was clutch hanging up, either a bad finger, warped disc, or
pilot bearing. Also mentioned, but less often, was a synchro problem. Are there any obvious & easy things to check before dis-assembly? Thanks.
Sonny

Take the clutch access cover off and look at the clutch. If it's bad ad throw out bearing you can see that. I would look for a broken operating bolt on one of the fingers.
