3020 shiftig

Ok, thanks for the help with the steering motor job, I fixed other things and am down to a coolant leak I thought I had fixed but now on to the shifting. My gearhead looked a little and we figure it for worn shift parts in the trans. I am not sure what we can really see from pulling the cover but I am thinking I want to fix it and exploration may be the easy way. Its really not that big of deal to pull it all apart.
Its all clean and washed and I also have 1 load shaft seal to fix and may actually have a Boling bushing on hand for it.
These jobs all seem to run together anymore, harder to remember what we did to what and when. I had this tractor apart for a seal a couple years ago, we didn't really reman anything as I needed it then, we fixed the leak and hussled it back together on a Saturday morning.
Some of the pics are not from the same jobs, this is a 4020 and I really cant remember why it was apart.

Start by fixing all the looseness in the shifter and it's linkage. New pins and bushings etc. and adjustments. Build up worn spots on lever and in the quadrants to get rid of all the extra slop. Then see how it acts.

Did a lot of 3020 transmissions back in the day when I worked at a Deere dealer. Try rebuilding the shiftier, including rod ends. basically anything you can get at from the outside. You might get lucky. If it doesn't help at least you haven't done anything you wouldn't have to do if end up rebuilding the Transmission. It's been my experience that when they won't go in gear or pop out the sycros are done as well as most of the gears on the top shaft as well as some on the bottom shaft. If that's the case you have a very big expensive project on your hands. Back in the early eighties it was an 8 to 10 thousand dollar job. If you try to get cheap by only throwing in a few parts you'll just be back in there. Good Luck!

Yes, I tuned the linkage and wasn't sure about what I could get to from the top. It really isn't a deal to take it apart. The thing was well abused before I got it so I am not tearing in to something new by any means. See if this posts pic again, this is a different job.
