3020 diesel fuel line

I have a 65 3020 diesel and need to replace the fuel line from the fuel pump to the fuel tank on the bottom. How do you access the bottom of tank to get the line off. Is it better to replace with a steel line or rubber. Thanks

There is an inspection hole ahead of the front axle... where you turn the fuel off on the bottom of the tank.

It is a lot easier to fish a rubber hose in there than to replace the steel line.

That line is very nasty to replace in it's original condtion,,even if you remove the tank,, The rubber line is a good option.

I just did one and it went well. The hydraulic shop sold me a type of flexible steel alloy line that I could bend by hand as I installed it, without kinking. I wish I could remember what they called it. It looked almost like copper tubing but it was a steel alloy which is supposed to be strong as the original steel lines but way easier to work with.

The line was 5/16" "EZIBEND TUBE" from a place called American Hose and Hydraulics. This one went on a 3010 diesel. It was 49 inches long at $.43/in was $21 plus $4.70 for two sleeves and nuts.
I was able to feed it forward under the radiator next to the frame rail, over the steering motor, then start bending it as needed from the front access hole. I think I loosened up the tank straps so I could twist the tank some to help get the threads started. May be harder with a JD wide front end on it.

You can always head to the auto parts store, use some brake line, its a whole lot cheaper, and if your careful you can bend it however you want.
