JD Planters

This is not a tractor question but I am sure that the JD people on this forum can answer my question. I am currently using a JD 7000 4 row planter and I am looking at buying a JD 7200 planter. I have not seen this planter and it is a 2 hour drive from my place to look at it. My question, how does a 7200 differ from a JD 7000 planter? My current planter is a consertill and it works good but it is a 4 row and the 7200 is a 6 row and I am thinking that I would jump up to 6 row. Any info will be appreciated. Happy farming.

A 7200 can come as a "drawn" planter with a 5X7 main frame being one of the features. It will not come with individual marker cylinders but will have a 7/8 drive shaft where the row units chain up to. A 7200 consevation planter will have a 7X7 main frame, will have individual marker cylinders, and also have a 7/8 drive shaft in place of the 9/16 on your 7000. A conservation 7200 would be a must if you are going to use a variety of coulter and trash diverter assemblies along with the new air pressure type down pressure assemblies for the row units. when I bought my 1750 a couple of years ago I saw more than a couple of "drawn" 1750's that had welded frames because they could not handle the stress of all the add-ons. You might get lucky with your 7200 in that it has the more advanced boot sensors for the latest seed drop monitors.

I forgot to mention one of the most important differences which is drawn planters have one lift cylinder with a pivot tube type lift while the conservation will have lift cylinders for each wheel.

Your 7000 is standard bolts and a 7200 is metric. The closing wheels adjust with a lever much nicer than a 7000. The seed transmission is a little handier to adjust on the 7200. Tom

Thank to all. I now have a better idea of what to look for when I go and inspect the JD 7200. Happy farming.
