Color of backing plate in fenders /NewGen

Is it black or green? See a few I thought were 100% original with green around lights.I know black looks better on the NewGen but could not tell on 4000 brosher Long Green Line posted a while back when the hub question came about green on inside and yellow on outside.Thanks!

Larry, to my knowledge the part you mentioned was always black until the 30 series utility tractors came out. They used pretty much the same fender but the backing was green on these. I believe the earlier tractors were always black. Mike

Black. Usually the black paint extends forward on the inner side of the fender just behind the rolled edge and also on the underside where the grab handle is. Here's an example of an original fender that I am quite certain has never been repainted before.

I know of a couple 71s I know are original[ one only has 1900 hours] .One guy that worked at JD told me he remembered painting a few new ones as customer wanted them black.Only 1971 are the ones I wondered why these few were green.They look better black maybe the fender painter took a break.
