Got a new reg from Deere to switch a B to 12v it only has 3 terminals. Missing the one under the regulator. Book says when using reg 1118782 to attach the white and black wire to the reg bat terminal. My? is what do you attach the A post on the generator to on the vr? The reg L terminal?

First off if you were switching to 12V why mess around with a generator ?

secondly if you have an L terminal you should have a GEN (or A)terminal on the bottom ? The only ones I remember with an L terminal had 4 total. Bat,GEN (or A),F,L
3 terminal ones should just have BAT,GEN (or A),F

Might be mistaken about the L terminal. Not looking at it at the moment. I'll ck again later. As far as using a generator, the tractor had a 12v alternator on it that was shot along with a wiring nightmare. Put a new harness on it and had a generator on the shelf to bolt on but missing the regulator. Figured it would be the easiest fix since it already has a 12v coil

Take a look at the photo below.

As you mentioned above "[i:654c4848f0]it only has 3 terminals.[/i:654c4848f0]"

The three terminals are BAT, GEN, and FLD.

Attach the A (Armature) post on the generator to the [b:654c4848f0]GEN[/b:654c4848f0] terminal on the voltage regulator.

Hope this helps.

If you switch from a 4 terminal (BAT FLD LOAD ARM) VR (they had Gen/Arm underneath or one side all by itself) to a 3 Terminal (BAT FLD ARM) BOTH the wires that attached to LOAD and BAT on old 4 wire system now attach to the BAT terminal.

BAT to load side of ammeter (plus wire that used to go to LOAD now wires to BAT)
FLD to gennys FLD post
GEN/ARM to gennys ARM post

It was originally POS ground remember so Polarize genny before start up to be safe

Yes.

As you mentioned above in your original post, "[i:654c4848f0]Book says when using reg 1118782 to attach the white and black wire to the reg bat terminal.[/i:654c4848f0]"

The other end of the white wire attaches to the ammeter.

The other end of the black wire attaches to the light switch.

Hope this helps.
