1937 D Model oils

Good morning gentlemen. Its been quite awhile since I have used this forum. Aging has it problems as we all know, but I have been able to get a 1937 D running this winter. It will join my John Deere collection of a 38 B hand start, unstyled of course, a 39 A hand start styled, and a 1943 AO unstyled electric start.

My question is what the current thinking is about motor and gear oil for this tractor. It will not get much real use, just a parade or two and hopefully a couple of antique tractor pulls. I'm thinking heavy gear oil for the transmission and rear end gear boxes and 20W50 for the engine. I'm thinking of doing this on all four on the above tractors when I next service them.

Any and all thoughts appreciated.

Thanks in advance from Norm 43 out in cold and snowy Utah.

Seems that 15-40 Rotella (or equivalent) is popular for engines and 90-140 for gear boxes will do the job. HTH

Gear oil has been cussed and discussed so many times on here that you could probably get at least a hundred different opinions. Just going off the top of my head but it seems the manual says 140W in warmer climates and 90W in cooler climates (I think they give a temperature range for each weight). But.....someone, maybe B&D has stated that 50W???? engine oil is just as good and is even yellow metal compatible.
When I replaced the tranny oil in my AR I went to NAPA and got some GL-1, but I don't remember if I got 90W or 140W.

I have same question on M was thinking 20/50w synthetic will be working tractor has sit for years any tips or things to look at before starting it up.

I would run straight 140 in the transmission if you are only using in the summer, thinner oils, even multi viscosity WILL leak worse.
