whats the deal with the valves on the intake manifold
having trouble with #1 and #2 missing and about 15 lbs lower on compression
will these valves have anything to do with that
engine was just rebuilt, can not find anything wrong (timing, spark )
anyone have any ideas

The "valves" on the intake manifold have NOTHING to do with compression.

They are simply a "seasonal changeover" deal, when in one position, for cold weather, they direct exhaust gases to heat the intake manifold to prevent carb icing, in the other position, they direct exhaust heat AWAY from the intake manifold area for better fuel economy in WARM weather.

Just a commit , those old intake manifolds can burn thru and let air into the engine from the wrong source . I would think you could have a head gasket failure or broken rings ??, to lower compression .
