1950 B 6V TO 12V

Have a 1950 B in the shop that has a 12V alternator (which is shot) on it and voltage reg bolted to the frame. I have a 12V generator from an A that works. Should be able to just mount it up and go, correct? I have installed a complete new wiring harness and it had a 12v coil with Wico C mag converted to ignition already on it. Should this be pos or neg ground?

If you are planning to make it "original" then it needs to be positive ground. If not original, then you can make it either polarity, your choice.

You will need a regulator for that generator, polarity should not matter, I would use negative ground if 12V, you can use standard accessories then.

I like to caution those converting B's to 12 volt and still having a Mag. because I have witnessed at least 1 that spins too fast the impulse coupling was not tripping so this throws the starting timing WAY off.

Been there and done that several times. Use an A generator, change bulbs. Engine will spend faster with the 6V starter, didn't experience any starting problems as other described. Pretty much a brain dead setup suppose you could use negative or positive ground depending on your desire, would have to switch wire leads on ammeter if you change to positive.

I will make a little political joke on your misspelling, so please look at it as humor.

If an engine spends faster, does that make it a nnalert?

Even if it fires, I dought if it would kick back as the flywheel would carry it on just like when the engine is at slow idle.
