4430 Clutch Question

I've got a 4430 quad, The problem is that the clutch releases all at one time so there is no easing into to something to hook up or whatever you want to do. It's all or nothing. I would think a person could adjust the clutch so that it wouldn't be so jumpy but the tractor is new to me and I don't know where to start. I'd sure appreciate any help I could get!

You don't say what trans. Assuming a synchro or quad no adjusting.
Replace disks etc.

Could be 2 things, one the clutch plates are worn bad, which would mean a split,, 2 the clutch operating valve spring could be weak or broken,, it is set up to allow the valve to open partially then all the way as the pedal comes up when the spring is weak or broken it comes up all at once,, giving you a jumpy clutch i would check the valve first i think I have a pic of it here..# 36 and #34 you will need # 31 gasket plus the outer gasket

Yes it is a quad range, the valves your talking about are under the cab on the right side of the tractor (if your facing it), on the side of the transmission, I think? 3 or 4 there, one labeled clutch, pto clutch and I think a brake valve there to. You think maybe the springs in the clutch valve may be weak and what's causing my problem? If so I don't think it would be a big deal to replace them and give that a try before trying anything else. The previous owner said that it had been doing that for a long time and he had had some mechanics to look at it and they couldn't figure out what would be causing it, talked like he even took it to JD and they couldn't figure it out either. He might have been a little windy though too! Thank you all for your help and if you think of anything else please send it my way!!

Tim, what is that valve called? I would like to look it up on jdparts and get some part #'s. I looked at the clutch valve but it showed something different than you have showing here. Thanks

It's the clutch operating valve, and there is a bit to taking it out, a couple lines, linkage and pins, then pulling the valve off the side of the clutch housing ,,then,, pulling the inner housing off,,just pay attention as you go there are 2 gaskets and 2 seals that should be replaced as you service the springs..

Yes, that is a possability,, but the valve springs are most often the problem, second is the clutch it's self, being worn, then out of internal adjustment.
